CHATTOGRAM, May 29: The police recovered on Sunday a truckload of scrap of one of the major steel producers in the country.
The scrap was recovered from the depot of a local Union Parishad (UP) chairman at Sitakunda of the district.
Acting on complaints from the Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills (BSRM) the police seized on the day the truck loaded with scrap from the depot of INC Kumira Ship Breakers owned by UP Chairman Salauddin Aziz.
Salauddin Aziz said he was at a function of his relatives on the day.
On return home, he learnt that a scrap-laden truck entered his ship-breaking yard, he added.
He quickly informed the Sitakunda police. After his phone call the police went to the yard and found the truck along with its driver and helper, he said. Somebody might have done it to implicate him, the chairman stated.
Police said the truck was carrying scrap from Chattogram Port to the Mirsarai warehouse of the BSRM Steel Plant on Saturday last.
On the way, a group of miscreants diverted the truck to the INC Ship Breaker's yard.
The BSRM authority filed a case against driver Ali Sumon, his assistant Rajiv and three others.
Ali and Rajiv were arrested and the police were trying to nab the other suspects.
