Police sergeant among 3 dies in Comilla crash

Three members of a family including a police sergeant were killed when a car, after a tyre of the vehicle burst, crashed into the railing of a bridge in Chouddagram upazila in Comilla district on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 52, a sergeant of Brahmanbaria District Police, his wife Lovely, 35, and their minor daughter Nuzhat Islam, 3. Police said the accident took place around 8:00am when a tyre of the private car carrying the police officer and his family burst and crashed into the railing of a bridge at Batisha on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, leaving sergeant Nazrul and his daughter dead on the spot, injuring Lovely critically. Lovely was rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital where she died at about 10:00am, according to UNB.
