Police SI suspended for mugging

A sub-inspector (SI) of Motijheel Police Station was suspended as he allegedly mugged Tk 60,000 from an old man at Fakirerpol by threatening to implicate him in a case Thursday night, police said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Syed Sajjad Selim told the FE that Mirazul Islam, the SI, was suspended as the complaint was proved in the primary investigation.
Further investigation was on, he added.
Another official of the same police station said that Mirazul with the help of two policemen mugged an old man, Aklus Mia, of Tk 60,000 on Thursday night at his Fakirerpol house in the city.
The SI forcibly took the money from Aklus after threatening to implicate him in a criminal case, the official added.
In the following morning of the incident, Aklus filed a written complaint to the deputy commissioner of Motijheel zone Khandaker Muhituddin who ordered the police to investigate the matter.
