Tuesday, 21 October 2008

Tripartite street fights among students of Dhaka College and City College and police-members Monday turned the capital's New Market area into a veritable battlefield, leaving at least 25 people wounded and a number of cars damaged, reports UNB.
First fisticuffs took place after some Dhaka College students engaged themselves in an altercation with the students of City College over capturing a City Bus seat at about 10:30am near the City College campus.
"At one stage, the City College students forced three of the Dhaka College students to get down and took them into their campus. Then the captors gave them heavy beatings," police said, quoting spot accounts of the incident.
The three students were later handed over to Dhanmondi police. As the news spread, about 30 Dhaka College students stormed into the City College premises, throwing brickbats to make their way in. At that time, widespread clashes broke out, which left 15 students injured on both sides, the sources said.
During the vandalism, three private cars of City College teachers were damaged. Masudur Rahman, a lecturer of Marketing Department of the college, was also injured.
The City College students also held and took three other students of Dhaka College into their campus and beat them black and blue. They are Rashedul Hasan and Maksudul Hasan of Economics Department and Toufiq Mohammad Zaber of Management Dept.
