Police van bombed

Thursday, 6 February 2014

Suspected pro-hartal elements on Thursday hurled bombs at a police van in Rajshahi city during a general strike enforced across the country by the Jamaat-e-Islami. The strike was called to protest death sentence awarded to Jamaat chief Motiur Rahman Nizami in Chittagong 10-truck arms haul case. Police said activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, Jamaat’s student wing, put up a barricade on the road in the divisional city’s Dingadoba area around 9am. Rajparha Police Station OC ABM Rezaul Karim said the hartal supporters also hurled handmade bombs at the police van there. However, nobody was hurt in the explosion. The Shibir activists collected logs and set them on fire in the city’s Naodarha area around 7.30am, Shah Mukhdum Police Station OC Hafizur Rahman said, according to bdnews24.com.
