Police yet to make any headway, BB forms probe body

Bangladesh Bank (BB) formed a committee Sunday to investigate the robbery at BRAC Bank branch in Joypurhat, report bdnews24.com.
However, police is yet to make any headway until Sunday in nabbing the miscreants involved in the looting of Tk 19.5 million from the branch
The central bank's Bogra region Deputy General Manager (DGM) Murtoza Ali is heading the three-member team. The two other members are Bangladesh Bank Assistant Directors Nurul Huda and Sabbir Ahmed.
Robbers Friday night knocked down the rear wall of the BRAC Bank's branch on the first floor of a building at Sadar Street and made off with almost Tk 19.5 million from the vault.
Our correspondent adds:  Joypurhat Sadar Thana police told The Financial Express that they had filed a case on the incident without specifying any names.
Sub-Inspector Rashedul Islam is inspecting the case that was filed on Saturday under section 461/38.
"We are trying to uncover the incident, we hope very soon we will be able to tell you something," Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, Abdur Rashid, told the FE over phone.
Police said the occurrence took place at Joypurhat SME Krishi Branch, housed on the first floor of the two-storied Shahjahan Plaza in the district town.
According to police, the bank's employees found the vault broken and the money missing in the morning and informed the police of the matter. "The closed circuit (CC) camera of the bank was also found disconnected," the police officer said adding that it might have been done by the robbers.
Joypurhat Additional Police Super Abdul Mannan and member of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have visited the spot and collected the necessary information from the witnesses.
"We also detained two on duty security guards of the bank and have been interrogating them," he said.
The police officer said adding that for the robbery, the gang rented a room housed at Mousumi Market, located adjacent to bank building.
Meanwhile, Brac Bank Head of Communication Zeeshan Kingshuk Huq told FE that the branch remained open on Sunday and transactions and other regular activities were normal.
