Policeman dies in Sitakunda crash

A policeman was killed on Saturday night when hit by a covered van at Southern Bypass on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sitakunda Upazila in Chittagong. He was busy trying to remove from the bypass a lorry that had broken down. Sitakunda Police Sub Inspector (SI) Nasir Uddin, 45, had been tasked with some others to remove the vehicle to smoothen traffic, Highway Police Kumira Sub-post Sergeant Zillur Rahim said. Nasir was on probation. Rahim said Nasir Uddin died on spot when a speeding covered van rammed into him from behind around 11pm. Police have seized the covered van and the lorry, but both their drivers have managed to escape, according to bdnews24.com.
