Policeman, four Taliban killed in Afghan gunbattle

Saturday, 9 June 2007

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Jun 8 (AFP): A policeman and four Taliban militants were killed in a gunfight after rebels attacked a police post in southern Afghanistan, police said Friday.
The incident happened late Thursday in troubled Zabul province, a hotbed of Taliban activity, senior police official Hakim Khan said.
"The Taliban attacked our police post and fighting took place in which four Taliban were killed and also, unfortunately, one of our policeman," Khan told AFP. "The enemy left their dead behind and ran away," he added.
Clashes involving small groups of Taliban guerrillas occur almost daily across southern and eastern Afghanistan.
