Policy for electronic media stressed

Monday, 25 June 2007

Speakers at a function in the city Sunday stressed the need for a strong policy to regulate country's electronic media, which are allegedly now haphazardly operating their activities.
They made the observation while speaking at a function organised by the Bangladesh Cable Television (TV) Viewers Forum (BCTVF) on the occasion of launching 'Online TV Viewers Survey-2007' to identify the popularity and viewers' demand about the cable TV channels, reports UNB.
President of National Press Club Shawkat Mahmood was present at the function as the chief guest.
BCTVF President Akhter Hossain Rintu presided over the function while General Secretary of Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) Nizam Uddin Masud was the special guest.
In his address, Shawkat Mahmood pointed out, "There is neither a policy nor any law in the country to regulate the electronic media."
Mentioning Marshal Mcluh-an's comment-'Medium is the message'-the chief guest stated that the impact of electronic media was much more in Bangladesh.
"Through this survey," COAB General Secretary Nizam Uddin Masud said, "Audience would be able to know what they really want from the TV channels."
Convenor of the Survey Erfanul Haque Nahid told the function that this would be the second online survey in Bangla language. The BCTVF conducted its first ever-online survey on May 15 last year, he added.
This year's survey on website would be conducted through about 14 questionnaires. It would be terminated on July 28 next. The website address is : www.cabletvbd.com
