Political leaders protest hartal

Sunday, 14 November 2010

Leaders of different political parties have expressed reaction to dawn-to-dusk countrywide hartal call by main opposition BNP terming it as an undemocratic step against establishing the rule of law, reports BSS.
This hartal was not against the government or any particular political party...it was against the court, they said, urging BNP to honour the court verdict by withdrawing hartal.
They also expressed utter surprise at the ill efforts of making the people hostage to the interest of one person by calling hartal before Eid-ul-Azha.
In an instant reaction to the media, Joint General Secretary of Awami League (AL) Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said by calling hartal, BNP was trying to create anarchy. "This hartal is not expected in any way," he added.
President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) Hasanul Haque Inu said this hartal is not against the government or any particular political party, it is against the court.
"The hartal has been called to protect the Cantonment house of Khaleda Zia and it is a big threat to the rule of law," he said.
Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said this hartal, in the name of protecting a house, is not only imprudent, but also politically renounced.
Calling upon the opposition to make legal fight, he said, "We hope a good sense would develop in the opposition and they would withdraw hartal keeping in mind the sufferings of homebound people in celebrating Eid.
General Secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Mujahidul Islam Selim termed the hartal call as illogical and unnecessary and said that it would increase the sufferings of people.
The interest of the people would have been protected if hartal had been called to protest the price hike of essentials and for other issues like power, water and gas. "General people have no interest in protecting the house," he added.
