Politics blamed for 2001 violence
Monday, 25 April 2011
A judicial inquiry blames dissimilarity in political philosophy, endeavour for establishing communal ideology and administrative weaknesses of the caretaker government for violent repression on the minorities, especially the Hindus, and the opposition activists immediately after the 2001 national elections, reports bdnews24.com.
The oppressions, destroying the spirit of liberation war and of non-communalism, aimed at projecting Bangladesh as an extremist communal country before the world, said the report on the investigation into the countrywide violence perpetrated after the BNP-led alliance won the ballot.
The 1078-page report was submitted to Home Minister Sahara Khatun Sunday, more than nine years after the incident and over one year after the formation of the commission.
Sahara said necessary steps would be taken in line with the recommendations and the report would be put to public.
