Polling centre torched in Sirajganj

Jamaat-Shibir men allegedly torched a polling centre following a clash with ruling party men at Nalshandhya in Ullapara upazila on Wednesday. Tajul Huda, officer-in-charge of Ullapara Model Police Station, said an altercation ensued between the supporters of Awami League-backed and Jamaat-supported chairman candidates in the upazila polls at Nalshandhya High School polling centre around 12:30 pm. Later, the supporters of the two candidates attacked each other, leaving 11 people injured. At one stage, the Jamaat-Shibir men set fire to a room of the makeshift polling centre at about 12:45 pm. Five ballot boxes containing 1,000 ballot papers were gutted in the fire, said police. Being informed, a firefighting unit rushed in and doused the flame, according to UNB.
