PABNA, Dec 29 (UNB): Police detained a polling officer in the district for allegedly violating rules of election during Monday's voting for election to ninth parliamentary.
The arrested person was identified as Lalan Uddin Master, a polling officer of Zahirpur Government Primary School Centre in Pabna-5 (Sadar) constituency.
Police said Lalan Master allegedly gave marks on the voters' fingers and asked them to go away saying that casting of their votes had been completed. "At that time, he sealed the ballot papers and stuffed into the box."
Police detained him at about 2:30pm, and he was withdrawn from his duties when local voters raised a strong protest.
However, Lalan denied the allegation, saying that he had sealed the ballots of very old and uneducated women.
