Polls as per constitution one point of AL: Quader
Thursday, 13 July 2023
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday reiterated that the upcoming election would be held under the Sheikh Hasina-led government in line with the constitution, reports BSS.
"One dream of BNP has died and now it's dreaming of another. What are you (BNP leaders) dreaming of? Is it Sheikh Hasina's resignation? They (BNP) have a one-point demand."
"We too have a one-point demand: the next election must be held as per constitution, keeping Sheikh Hasina in power," Mr Quader told a peace rally.
Dhaka South and North City units of Awami League jointly hosted the rally outside Baitul Mukarram's South Gate in the afternoon with Dhaka South City AL president Abu Ahmed Mannafi in the chair.
Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said: "BNP's one-point demand is the resignation of Sheikh Hasina. Our one point is that there will be no election without Sheikh Hasina."
BNP leaders know that they will be defeated in the election and they will be washed away by the popularity of AL president Sheikh Hasina, he continued.
"So, they envy Sheikh Hasina… Her mistake is that she is committed to building Smart Bangladesh by 2041," cited the AL secretary.
Foreigners want a free and fair election in Bangladesh and the AL wants it too. So, anarchists will be resisted, according to Mr Quader.
Mr Quader said the ruling Awami League would not obstruct anyone's programme but it would resist all hurdles against the holding of fair elections.
"We won't compromise with any evil force. There is no compromise or dialogue with those whose hands are stained with blood," he added.
AL presidium members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya Bir Bikram, Qamrul Islam, Dr Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, AL joint general secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, organising secretaries Ahmad Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain and Sujit Roy Nandi, Dhaka South City mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapash, Dhaka North City mayor Atiqul Islam, AL publicity secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, education and human resources secretary Shamsun Nahar Chapa, Dhaka North City AL president Sheikh Bajlur Rahman and Bangladesh Chhatra League president Saddam Hossain, among others, addressed the rally.
Matia said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman wanted to turn Bangladesh into a Pakistan-like state by killing Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members, but failed to do so.
"No matter what advantages are given to you, your character won't change. Democracy has been practiced in this country only under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, not under any other government," she added.
AL joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "BNP announced one point in 2013 and did it in 2014 too. It also announced one point in 2015 and 2019. A few days ago, they (BNP) also announced a one point again. Their one-point burst like a balloon."
The information and broadcasting minister said former VP of Dhaka University Nurul Haque Nur met with an Israeli agent. Tarique Rahman also had a meeting with an Israeli agent in the same way.
Terming BNP an agent of Israel, Dr Hasan said: "We've also declared one point. Our one point is that we'll kick out Israeli agents, murderers and the throwers of petrol bombs on people from politics, insha-Allah."
