Polls, democracy not possible without Khaleda, Hasina: Delwar

Friday, 28 September 2007

BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain said Thursday free and fair election and establishment of democracy will not be possible keeping BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and other senior leaders behind the bars, reports UNB.
Talking to journalists at his NAM apartment, Delwar said he thought that all members of former president Ziaur Rahman were arrested under a blueprint to prevent them from taking part in the upcoming elections.
Recalling the past the BNP leader said anyone could contest the polls from the jail. But now the system has been changed. "Cases are filed one after another against the Zia family invoking the emergency rules to harass them."
Referring to the case against Tarique Rahman's wife and mother-in-law he said it was illogical to accuse and prosecute them for the purported offence of Tarique.
Again, it is inhuman to take into custody all but a minor girl, the daughter of Tarique Rahman. "Who will take care of her?" Delwar asked.
