HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party (JP) will have to count Tk 10,000 in fine for its failure to submit the return of its expenses on January 5 national election to the Election Commission within the stipulated time. The commission on Wednesday sent a letter to the main opposition party asking to submit the statement of polls expenditure within the next 15 days on condition of giving fine of Tk 10,000, said a senior assistant secretary of the EC. As per the Representation of the People Order 1972, if Jatiya Party fails to submit the statement to the EC even within the 15 days, the commission will have the legal authority to cancel its registration, according to a news agency.
