Polls largely peaceful: EC

Voting in 63 municipalities of Dhaka division has ended peacefully on the third day of the staggered municipal elections throughout the country, reports bdnews24.com.
The voting got underway at 8am on Monday and concluded at 4pm peacefully, barring some stray incidents.
It was a public holiday in the townships where polls were held.
Army personnel are on patrol in 13 municipalities of the seven districts of the division while BDR personnel have been posted in one municipality, Karimganj in Kishoreganj, as a striking force.
The Election Commission (EC) has claimed that Monday's polls were peaceful, barring some stray incidents.
The elections were held in 63 municipalities under Dhaka division.
Commissioner Sohul Hossain at the EC secretariat told the newsmen that he was expecting around 70 per cent turnout of voters from the day's polls.
About the stay on elections at eight centres in Kaliakoir municipality he said the matter would be investigated.
Assistant returning officer of the area Mohammad Shawkat Ali told reporters that polling at the centres were suspended following allegations from candidates and their agents of discrepancies between voters' names and the corresponding photographs.
In Tarabo municipality under Narayanganj, judicial magistrate Aminul Islam Polash sentenced a young man, Nabir Hossain, to six months in jail for creating trouble at Masabo Government Primary School centre of ward-3 at noon.
