Polls mustn't cross Feb deadline: Dudu

Friday, 15 August 2025

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has called on the people to remain vigilant to prevent any attempt to delay the national election beyond February, reports UNB.
He cautioned that any move to extend polls deadline would pave the way for the return of fascism in the country.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a rally, organised by 'Aparajeyo Bangladesh' in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Thursday, protesting what they described as a plot to derail the national election.

"An acceptable, fair and transparent election is essential to restore democracy, and such an election has been scheduled for next February. The announcement has been welcomed by the people, who expect the election to take place within the month," he said.
The BNP leader said everyone, both at home and abroad -- including experienced political parties and election experts in the country -- acknowledged that there was sufficient time to hold the election by December.
"Dr Yunus, as the head of the government, expressed his wish to hold a historic election in February. Taking that into account, we accepted the shift from December to February. However, we must remain cautious - under no circumstances should this February deadline be crossed," he said.
Stating that the election must be held within the announced deadline, Dudu warned that any attempt to delay the polls would amount to an effort to bring back fascism and autocracy in the country.
