Polytech students ransack hospital in Thakurgaon

THAKURGAON, Mar 17 (UNB): Students of Thakurgaon Polytechnic Institute went on rampage and ransacked Sadar hospital following the death of their teacher allegedly due to wrong treatment Wednesday. Sources said Rezaul Islam (36), a teacher of the institute, sustained serious injuries being hit by a motorbike in front of Judge Court in the district town in the afternoon. When he was rushed to Sadar hospital the duty doctor pushed him an injection and he died after sometime. As the news spread, the agitated students went berserk and ransacked the hospital. They demonstrated with sticks and put up barricade on the road in front of the hospital. On information, police rushed to the spot and charged baton on them, leaving 15 students injured. They were later given first aid at a clinic. Family sources said Rezaul was an asthma patient and he died after a doctor gave him an injection. However, Civil Surgeon Shahidul Haque said it is not true that he died due to the injection. He might have received severe injuries in chest in the accident, he added. Additional police were deployed in front of the hospital.
