Poor people get assets from Islamic Foundation

GAIBANDHA, Oct 9 (BSS): A total of 108 poor and destitute people of the district got assets worth TK 0.3 million and 60,000 from the Zakat Fund of Islamic Foundation Friday. Under the program, sewing machines were distributed to 10 women, rickshaw-van to 27 poor men and goats to 71 destitute, foundation sources said.
A simple function on 'Islam and Zakat' was also held in the auditorium of Zilla Parishad of the town. Mahbub Ara Begum Gini (MP), attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner M. Shahidul Islam in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashib Ahsan, deputy director (DD) of Islamic Foundation (IF) M. Mazharul Mannan, joint secretary of district AL Mozammel Haque Mondal, cultural affairs secretary Mridul Mostafi Jhantu and general secretary of District Imam Samity Moulana Sheikh M. Aminul Islam.
Speaking on the occasion local lawmaker Mahbub Ara Begum Gini urged the well off section of the society to come forward in providing their Zakat money to the poor to make them self reliant through eradicating poverty and to build a happy and prosperous country. Later, she handed over the assets to the beneficiaries as the chief guest. Talking to the news agency DD of IF here M. Mazharul Mannan said the zakat money was collected from the well off section of the district this year.
