FE Report | Thursday, 2 October 2014
Portfolio investment rose significantly in September, although net overseas investment dropped to 31-month-low in August, officials said.
Traders who deal with overseas investors said investment in foreign portfolios is rising, as the investors are ensuring their position in line with the market's stability.
They also said improved political and economic scenario in the country also boosted involvement of the overseas investors with the capital market here.
According to data of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the overseas investors purchased shares worth above Tk 5.89 billion in September against sale of shares worth above Tk 1.63 billion.
As a result, total turnover in foreign portfolios stood at over Tk 7.52 billion in September.
However, net overseas investment dropped to 31-month-low at Tk 124.56 million in August. In September, net overseas investment rose 3,322 per cent to close at Tk 4.26 billion.
A top official of a leading brokerage firm, which also deals with foreign portfolios, said the overseas investors make their investment plan considering overall market situation along with stability in political arena.
"Majority number of listed securities earlier touched the bottom line. Recently, the market has started to be stable along with the country's improved political situation. So, it's natural that the overseas investors will ensure their position in our capital market," he added.
