Positive legacies of Saifur Rahman
Thursday, 10 September 2009
The nation would remember his positive legacies -- the legacies of his political outspokenness, and on top of that all, his liberal attitude towards opposing views particularly in politics. He was widely considered an icon, a role model of financial reform. He became the chairman of the Board of Governors of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund in 1993, for a two-year term. This was a rare and unprecedented honour for the country, which has not been adequately appreciated in his backyard.
The million dollar question is: what did Saifur exactly do that made him a role model at the end of his ministership during the BNP-led government despite his spoiled brats' activities, abusing his name and fame for their illegal money making process?
