Positive opening amid volatility

The prices of most of the shares on Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) saw positive trend in early hours of trading on Tuesday amid modest see-saw. DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 0.94 points or 0.02 per cent to stand at 4,649.69 points within first 30 minutes of trade when the report was filled at 11:00am. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips gained 3.31 points or 0.19 per cent to reach at 1,703.40 points. However, the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) went down by 1.16 points or 0.11 per cent to stand at 1,029.83 points at 11am. At that time, the DSE turnover stood at Tk 438 million. Of the issues traded till 11am, 122 advanced, 52 declined and 32 remained unchanged. Lafarge Surma Cement was the most traded stocks with shares worth Tk 58 million changing hands till then followed by AB Bank, Heidelberg Cement, LankaBangla Finance and Olympic Industries. The port city bourse – CSE – also saw positive trend at opening with its Selective Category Index --- CSCX gaining 4.48 points or 0.04 per cent to stand at 8,946.19 points, also at 11am. Of the issues traded till then, 39 gained, 37 declined and 7 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 29 million.
