Positive thinking leads to academic success

"WHAT is the use of studying so seriously at the beginning of the year or semester?"- this is a very common criticism students have to hear from their fellow classmates. In Bangladesh, especially in university level, whoever becomes serious at the beginning of the semester or year have to hear such discouraging and negative remarks put by their fellow classmates, or sometimes even their seniors.

This type of negative remarks do no good but only cause harm.

Words have power. Negative comments affects negatively. Positive words create positive environment. Positive words or statements or remarks can inspire others tremendously.

If a student really wants to succeed in studies, he or she must be serious from the beginning of the academic year or semester. This is very unfortunate that when someone is serious at the beginning of the academic period, others are after him and pass negative remarks.

I know a university teacher who used to suggest his students of the department of English literature in a university: "No one got first class before. So don't even dream, rather be realistic. You can hope for a good second class." The reality is in most of the years the most brilliants students were able to obtain a very good second class. But surprisingly, a few years back, the most brilliant student of one specific batch managed to get a first class in honours from the same department of the university.

Wasn't the teacher's suggestion negative and discouraging for the students? Didn't his suggestion stop them from dreaming something excellent?

Students must be cautious about such negative remarks-be it from fellow classmates, seniors or sometimes even from teachers.

You must create a defence system of your own so that you are not affected negatively by negative remarks.

It is positive thinking and faith that bring success in life. Norman Vincent Peale in the essay 'Expect the best and get it' in his best- selling book The Power of Postive Thinking has said: "Faith power works wonders
