The salvaged cargo vessel ‘MV Jabale Noor’ which sank in Bhola River more than 35 days ago, has been towed to Sarankhola range office of the Sundarbans East Zone under Sarankhola upazila in Bagerhat district. The forest department has taken the potash-laden cargo vessel under its custody. It was taken to the Sarankhola Range office on Wednesday, five days after it was pulled out from Sundarbans’ Bhola River. Assistant forest reservoir of Sarankhola Range of the Sundarbans East Zone Kamal Uddin said 30 days after its capsize, fertiliser-laden cargo ‘Jabale Noor’ was pulled out from the Bhola River on Friday. It was towed to the range office, some 11 kilometre off the spot, on Wednesday evening, he said. Earlier, forest department employing local labourers managed to remove 7 metric tons of potash from the vessel after it capsized on May 5. Officer-in-charge of Sarankhola Police Station M Rezaul Karim said vessel owner Aminul Islam Babul was now in jail after Bagerhat Judicial Magistrate court rejected his bail plea on Sunday (June 7) while three other accused remained absconding now, according to a new sagency.
