RANGPUR, Dec 5: Potato cultivation in eight districts of greater Rangpur and Dinajpur region is likely to face a serious setback this year due to a serious scarcity of quality seeds in the region, sources said.
The demand for seeds was about 0.15 million tonnes, while the Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) supplied only 1,600 tonnes of seeds to the farmers, sources added.
Local farmers somehow managed to collect seeds from the local NGOs.
But most of them alleged that the quality of seeds they managed was sub-standard. They apprehended that potato production would be affected owing to acute shortage of quality seeds.
