Potato harvest begins in Tangail

TANGAIL, Dec 2: Farmer of the district have started harvesting potato this year with much enthusiasm and in a joyful mood as they are getting a good price of their crop.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Tangail sources said this year cultivation target of the district is in 3744 hectares of land with the production target of 73124 metric tonnes of potato.
Of the total land of cultivation target of the 12 upazilas of the district are in Tangail sadar 510 hectares of land, in Bashail 75, in Kalihati 300, in Ghatail 105, in Nagorpur 350, in Mirzapur 540, in Modhupur 125, in Bhuapur 240, in Gopalpur 160, in Shakhipur 65, in Deiduar 905, Dhanbari 369 hectares of land.
Moyez Uddin, a farmer of village Mahmudpur under Delduar Upazila of the district said he has cultivated his 3.5 acres of his land and is hopeful for a bumper production.
Deputy Director (DD) DAE Tangail Md. Abul Hashim said favourable climatic condition, distribution of high quality seeds in due time, supply of fertilisers and other necessary agri inputs among the farmers are the reasons behind the bumper production of potato. They hoped this year farmers of the district will achieved the production target and a fair price of the corps.
