Our Correspondent | Thursday, 13 August 2015

BOGRA, Aug 12: Pottery industry is a bad shape as use of plastic and silver wares are on increase day-by-day in the domestic work across the district.
A local source said around 3500 families were engaged in their ancestral profession of pottery for ages but now around 2000 families have come out of the profession as it is no more worthwhile.
The rest of the workers in the district are finding it difficult even to keep body and soul together due to scanty sale of the earthen wares.
As a result many of the potters had to quit their profession.
Gita Rani Kundo, a potter of Adamdighi upazila said, Hundreds of potters are suffering extremely as they cannot repay the money which they borrowed from local money lenders to run their profession and cannot maintain their families due to limited demand for pottery in the area.
"Having borrowed Tk 5000 a potter Emran has stated producing earthen pots with the help of family members but he cannot recoup even the costing money from the work." she added.
