Poultry eggs, chickens to be made available during Eid

Sunday, 27 July 2014

Bangladesh Poultry Industries Coordination Committee (BPICC), an apex body of six poultry-related associations, has said that all possible initiatives have been taken to meet the demand for poultry chickens and eggs during Eid. The demand for poultry chickens and eggs remains comparatively high during the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, said Moshiur Rahman, convenor of the BPICC. Monitoring has been strengthened to ensure unhindered supply of safe poultry items, Moshiur said, adding that the consumers would get eggs and chickens at a reasonable price as the poultry goods are being sold at a price cheaper than the production cost. Besides eggs and chickens, consumers can also buy mini nugget, "tanduri" chicken nugget, sausage, fried chicken, drumstick, chicken wings, portion chicken, dressed broiler, etc, including food supplement-enriched items like Omega3 eggs. The consumption of egg is still much lower in Bangladesh. In the developed world per capita consumption of egg is more than 200 pieces, but in our country it is only 35-40, according to BSS.
