Poultry farming gaining momentum in Bogra

BOGRA, Aug 1: Poultry farming, especially of broiler and Pakistani species, is gaining momentum in the district as the farmers are getting more profit from the business within a very short time.
Poultry farming will help drive out unemployment problem in the rural areas and it could be reduced to a greater extent through the expansion of the business.
In addition to meeting the nutritional deficit, especially meat, poultry rearing is very helpful to boost the socioeconomic condition of the rural people. Besides, the dairy sector having huge prospects, can bring about a revolutionary change in the socio-economic condition of the poor to alleviate poverty both in rural and urban areas where the people are showing much enthusiasm in poultry rearing through scientific method.
District livestock office sources said, "Around 3476 big, middle and small poultry farms are running in the district to remove unemployment problem both in the rural and urbane areas."
According to a competent source, poultry farmers, who were in distress and amid frustration in the district and about to close their farms due to frequent loss even a few years back, are now getting profit by selling their poultry birds.
Wholesalers from Dhaka and other districts visit the district to purchase poultry birds at a good price from the farmers. A wholesaler from Sirajganj said, " A poultry bird weighing one kg is being sold at Tk 120 to 130." The farmers are happy over good price of their poultry products", he added.
Anisul Islam Liton, a high school teacher, said, "I have started my farm nearby Bogra-Naogaon highway at an initial investment of Tk 29,000 in last May with 1000 chicks and I have sold them the to wholesalers at Tk 68,000." "But I have to endure much woe as the chickens were attacked with different viruses frequently due to heavy rain." he added.
Jakir Hossain, an unemployed youth having post- graduate degree said, "As I don't get any job having completed both Honours and masters I started poultry farming borrowing money from Rajshai Krishi Unnayan Bank last year and now I am absolutely self-reliant."
District livestock officer Dr. A M Safiuzzaman said enormous prospects are there in the district in developing poultry farming and urged all concerned for taking necessary steps in this regard.
Establishing more poultry farms in our homestead and roofs of buildings, we can contribute a lot to improve the economic condition of the common people and alleviatie poverty, he added.
