Poverty rate to rise 15pc by 2030

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) forecast that the total poverty rates will increase around 15 per cent by 2030 in Bangladesh due to climate change. It also said production of paddy and wheat will be decreased about 8 and 32 per cents by 2050 as temperature will go high and saline water in agriculture land will increase due to rise of sea level. TIB disclosed the study at a report titled ‘Good governance on climate financing: Organisational and practical progress, challenge and possibility’ at BRAC Centre Inn on Wednesday noon. Climate project coordinator of the organisation M Jakir Hossain Khan read the report. According to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) information if water increases 28 centimeter in Bay around 96 per cent grazing ground of the Royal Bengal Tigers in Sundarbans area will be drowned. The report also said about 27 million Bangladeshi people will be affected by the sea level rise by 2050, according to a news agency.
