Poverty reduction
Saturday, 29 August 2009
Successive governments in Bangladesh, over the last 37 years, undertook hundreds of projects in the name of creating jobs for the poor. Volumes of project proposals pinpointed the problems to justify the projects as sure shot solutions in lucid language. Donors gave money for the implementation of projects under alluring titles like PRSP. But did the target groups get the benefits? Or, did the poverty reduction projects benefit the TV talkers, writers and those who made the projects documents.
Poverty reduction has been scanty, to say, the least. So, it is time, the new government discards corruption and coterie interest to allow the projects to achieve progress in poverty reduction.
