Power div awaits Cabinet nod for 'super fast-track' rental projects

Sunday, 11 April 2010

To implement the 'super fast-track rental power projects' by January 2011, the power division will seek Cabinet's approval to follow `Swiss Challenge', a form of public procurement to take decision on unsolicited bid and invite third parties to implement the rental projects, reports BSS.
"We have to take Cabinet approval before going to invite any company to implement our 'super fast-track' rental projects to add 500-600 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid by the scheduled time.
"We have placed the issue before the Prime Minister, who is also the minister for power, and accordingly, we will start our next course of action," Power Division Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told the news agency Saturday.
To overcome the ongoing crisis in the power sector, the power division Thursday last presented its four stair vision-solution to the PM called 'super fast-track', short-term, mid-term and long-term solution with a target to implement 9426 MW power projects by the year of 2015, if fuel is available.
The paper said the 'super first-track' power projects would be installed for two years, as these are high-cost diesel fired plants (furnace oil based rental power plant could not be available before 8 to 10 months so it would not help to overcome the next summer crisis).
"In recent time, the Power Development Board (PDB) has received some unsolicited proposals from different companies/individuals interested to implement some projects in competitive tariff. We have placed the issue before the Cabinet as soon as possible," he said.
