Power generation at Shahjibazar plant remains suspended

Friday, 11 September 2015

The power generation in the only-functioning two units of Shahjibazar Power Plant remained suspended from Wednesday following a fire incident. Plant sources said a fire broke out at the transformers of the units 8 and 9 having a capacity of 30MW each on Wednesday afternoon. Although the fire was doused immediately, production at the two units remained suspended as the transformer was damaged in the fire incident. Meanwhile, work to repair the damaged transformer has already started, said managing director of the power plant Dhurjati Prasad Sen. He, however, could not say when the power generation will resume again. Seven out of nine units of the power plant have already been shut down. The remaining two units used to add 60MW of electricity to the national grid, according to a news agency.
