Power getting pricier again

Tuesday, 22 March 2011

Another round of power tariff hike is going to be announced today (Thursday), reports bdnews24.com. Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) member Selim Mahmud said Wednesday that the announcement would come from a news conference at the BERC office in Karwan Bazar in the city. "The cost of electricity at consumer level (retail) is increasing. The process is already complete," Mahmud added. The BERC member, however, would not say how much the hike would be. BERC had raised bulk price of electricity for the third time this year by 31.16 per cent on November 24. The increase took effect in two phases: from December 1, and subsequently from February 1. The government on February 8 raised the average retail power tariffs by five per cent to Tk 4.20 from Tk 4.00 from February 1.
