BRAHMANBARIA, Jul 4: Frequent power outage, often for long periods, is severely hampering the industrial production in the district.
Regular power outage has almost paralysed normal life, affecting the daily activities of the people in the district.
Besides, the erratic power supply is causing huge losses to businessmen and factory owners, sources said.
Load-shedding is also severely affecting water supply in the upazila headquarters, treatment of patients in hospitals and clinics, and operations at banks, the telephone exchange and educational institutions in the district.
According to local people, power goes off three to four times a day in the district town and 10 to 15 times in upazila headquarters, even in many rural areas, electricity goes off for the whole day or night.
Under this situation, production in mills and factories has declined and a good number of industrial units in the district are facing closure due to erratic power supply.
Household equipment such as television, computer, bulbs, fans, refrigerators, etc. are often damaged due to regular voltage fluctuation. Students are one of the worst sufferers of the power disruption.
In these circumstances, local people have urged the interim caretaker government to take necessary steps for ensuring regular and uninterruptible power supply in the district.
