Power outage probe report delayed

Tuesday, 4 November 2014

The probe panel on Saturday’s power outage across the country says submission of its report has been delayed due to the public holiday on Tuesday. The 8-strong committee visited the Ramkrishnapur Sub-Station in Kushtia’s Bheramara Upazila on Tuesday. Bangladesh suffered its worst-ever power cut on Saturday after the National Grid collapsed around 11am on Saturday, leaving millions without power. Businesses, hospitals, and ordinary people bore the brunt. Electricity supply gradually became normal round midnight. A probe was initiated the same day headed by power division’s Additional Secretary Ahmed Kaykaus. ‘The probe is on. We are trying to find the reason behind the outage. We have been asked to submit our report by 3 working days. The investigation has progressed a lot, but the report is delayed due to the public holiday. We will file our initial report on Wednesday,’ the probe body chief told reporters on Tuesday, according to a news agency.
