United Modular Power Plant, a PPP project at Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, started commercial power generation on Thursday before the deadline, a high official of Power Development Board (PDB) said.
The power plant started generating 200 megawatts (MWs), helping the national grid, he said.
"The United Modular Power Plant started electricity generation on commercial basis from Thursday adding to the national grid," Sazzadur Rahman, director of Ashuganj Power Station Company Ltd, which is under PDB told the FE on Friday.
He said the gas- based power plant at a cost of Tk 14.28 billion comes into operation under public-private partnership (PPP).
The government has 29 per cent equity in the power plant while the rest is owned by the United Group, said Mr Rahman.
The cost of per unit power generation of the plant has been estimated at around Tk 3, the official added.
The power plant was scheduled to go for commercial production from May 19. But it started power generation on Thursday last, after trials on a couple of occasions over the last two months, according to PDB.
