Power supply becomes normal in city

Friday, 7 May 2010

A major fault that occurred at an underground cable Wednesday was finally repaired Thursday by the Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC).
Following the fault, a vast area of the central part of the capital city, including Bangladesh Secretariat, plunged into a blackout, reports UNB.
The DPDC officials said that the fault was detected at a point at the underground grid line near the mausoleum of the three national leaders at Doel Chattar on Dhaka University (DU) campus.
The cable connected the power transmission from the Dhanmondi Grid Sub-station to the Ramna sub-station.
DPDC, which controls the underground cable, completed the repair work to the faulty line at noon and restored power supply through the cable to the Ramna power sub-station.
After the repair works, the power supply situation in the central part of the city became normal again.
Large swathes of the central part of the capital including Bangladesh Secretariat, Segunbagicha, Kakrail, Dilkusha, Bijoynagar, Paltan, DU, National Press Club, Dhaka Club, Dhanmondi, Hazaribagh and Lalbagh had to experience constant load-shedding after the technical fault at the cable, which was a consequence of another fault at the Dhanmondi grid sub-station the same day.
