Power supply resumes in key points of Dhaka
Saturday, 1 November 2014
The power supply, suspended across the country following a breakdown in the national grid around 11:30am on Saturday, resumed at different parts of the country, including Dhaka city, at 5:00pm. ‘We’ve already restored power supply to Bangabhaban (the presidential palace), Ganabhaban (PM’s official residence) and some key institutions like BSMMU (PG) hospital, Birdem, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and hospitals in Mohammadpur areas,’ managing director of Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) Nazrul Hasan said in the afternoon. He also said the power supply will be restored gradually in other parts of the city within hours. Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (Desco), which controls the city’s western and northern parts, has restored electricity supply in Baridhara, Bashundhara, Gulshan, Mirpur and Kalayanpur areas. ‘We hope, all areas under Desco will get electricity supply within the next 2 hours,’ said Desco chief engineer Habibur Rahman. The country had gone under darkness as the grid failure put the whole area including the capital without power in the morning. Public Relation Officer of Power Development Board (PDB) Saiful Islam at 2:30pm said it may take three more hours for the situation to become normal, according to private TV channels.
