PPP not for passing public resources to pvt sector

Public-Private Partnership (PPP) does not mean transferring public sector, resources to the private sector, said adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Dr Gowher Rizvi. He said the present government believes that PPP is an effective tool for helping businesses grow and managing resource constraints, and it does not mean transfer of public sector resources to the private sector The adviser was addressing an international seminar on Removing Business Barriers through Effective Public-Private Dialogue at BRAC in Dhaka on Tuesday as the chief guest. Asia Foundation organised the seminar as part of its work plan to improve business environment at district level through public-private dialogue. Among others, president of Bangladesh Enterprise Institute Farooq Sobhan, Vice Chancellor of Brac University Ainun Nishat, Chief Economist of Asia Foundation Bruce Tolentino, chairman of SME foundation Aftab ul Islam, Syed Al Muti, and adviser to Institute of Governance Studies Manzoor Hasan addressed the seminar on various topics Members of parliament from Sunamjanj-3, Sylhet-3 and chamber leaders from Sylhet and Rajshahi also spoke highlighting the positive role of PPP in removing business barriers. Gowher Rizvi said despite the fact that the country has many innovations and researches including that at district levels, those are not transformed into policies due to lack of effective dialogue.
