PPP projects get Tk 25.7b budgetary allocations

The government has allocated Tk 25.7 billion for the projects to be implemented under public private partnership (PPP) in 2015 fiscal year.
The PPP budget is 3.4 per cent of the total allocation of the physical infrastructure that is set to get Tk755 billion.
The finance minister, in his budget speech, said "In order to attract private investment for infrastructure development we will encourage implementation of projects through PPP."
He said already 34 projects under six sectors have been approved in principle and advisors or consultants have also been engaged for the 33 projects.
The minister said this is the first step towards implementation of the projects and it is expected that the PPP legislation will be placed before the parliament shortly.
The costs of the approved PPP projects are estimated to be $11.14 billion, mainly in transport, health, education and tourism sectors.
The construction of Dhaka-Elevated Expressway, jetties in Mongla Port, Hemodialysis Centre, flyover from Shantinagar to Mawa Road via Bridge over Buriganga River and Dhaka Ashulia Elevated Expressway are among the major PPP projects, which have been approved.
The PPP law has already been sent to the law ministry for vetting and the finance minister hopes it will be placed before the parliament soon.
The latest developments in the PPP are issuance of gazette notification of PPP policy and guidelines 2010, guidelines and scheme for using viability gap fund and establishment of PPP office under the prime minister's office.
