THERE are many students who lack in confidence that is required for success in studies. If they had confidence, they could do much better. Confidence is a must while reading a difficult text, after performing poorly in one semester, while appearing in the exam or appearing in viva-voce.
If students have performed badly in one semester, they think they would also be doing bad in the coming semester. They start thinking themselves in that lower category, for example between CGPA 2.5 and 3.00. Thinking in this way really becomes harmful for them---they lose interest in studies.
Even with good preparation for the exam, students sometimes cannot write the answers in the exam properly. They lose confidence on themselves and get tensed and cannot write the answers properly.
While appearing viva voce at the end of every semester, many students become nervous. They become 'performance conscious' at the viva board. If they were not 'performance conscious', they could be restful easily and could be free from any kind of tension and do much better in the viva board.
What to do to gain your confidence?
First, remember that mind is the source of all energies-if you can control your mind, you can control everything in life. You can overcome any difficult situation. So try to have control of your mind. Practicing meditation can be a very good way of gaining confidence in life.
Second, mix with those who are positive. Their positive thinking and positive habit will influence you in a positive manner. Try to avoid mixing with those who are rather negative and have pessimistic attitude about life.
Third, study regularly and do not keep study pending for days, weeks or months.
When you keep things pending, you have huge study load which might inspire you to be away from the study table.
Fourth, just that you scored poor in one semester does not indicate that you will also do poor in the coming exams. Never think you belong to the category of low graders. There are many examples in which it can be seen that the backbenchers are doing good in the exam. So, never lose confidence. You will also come up, just have the confidence and start visulising your success.
Fourth, never get disappointed while reading a seemingly difficult subject. Always think that the text is easy. Then divide the text and read bit by bit. Herbert Spencer said, "I never get disappointed while reading and so reading these many books has been easier for me." Whenever you will find difficulty while reading a book, talk to yourself like 'I can do this' or 'I will be successful' as many times as possible and in this way you will be confident about understanding difficult texts.
Fifth, in the exam hall if you find the question paper is too difficult, do not be tensed up. Perform your best. Who knows you might still do good since you are working with the help of your cool brain.
