Pragati Insurance declares 22pc dividend

Pragati Insurance Ltd. declared 22 per cent cash dividend for the year 2019 in its 34th Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday through a digital platform, says a statement.
The meeting was presided over by Syed M. Altaf Hussain, Chairman of the company. Vice-Chairman Tabith Mohd. Awal, Members of the Board of Directors Khalilur Rahman, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Mohd. A. Awwal, Md. Syedur Rahman Mintoo, Md. Sarwar Kamal, Mohammed Abdul Malek, Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, N.J. Chowdhury, Nasir Latif, Independent Director Santosh Sharma, Md. Akbar Hossain and Managing Director & CEO Md. Rezaul Karim. A large number of shareholders also participated in the AGM.
During the year 2019 the company earned gross premium of Tk. 2406.53 million. Profit before tax was Tk. 281.19 million. Net claims settled during the year were Tk.138.47 million against Tk. 117.69 million in 2018. Underwriting profit stood at Tk. 228.74 million in 2019. The total asset of the company stood at Tk. 4672.44 million in 2019.
The chairman said the EPS increased to Tk. 3.19 from Tk. 3.02 in 2018.
The meeting was conducted by Company Secretary Syed Anisul Hoque.
The meeting elected three directors from "A" Group shareholders namely - (i) Md. Syedur Rahman Mintoo, (ii) Khalilur Rahman, (iii) Md. Sarwar Kamal. The meeting also elected two Directors from Group-B shareholders. They are: Ms. Nigar Jahan Chowdhury and Nasir Latif.
