PRAN, one of the biggest agro-processors in the country, has started mango collection and pulping activities like previous years, says a statement.
The conglomerate is collecting the ripe mango to manufacture mango drink, juice, mango bar and other food items.
PRAN sets a target to procure 60,000 metric tons of mangoes for the season.
Sarowar Hossain, Deputy General Manager of Barind Industrial Park (BIP) in Rajshahi, inaugurated the activities at a programme held at the park on Tuesday. The activity also has been started at PRAN Agro factory, Natore, at the same time.
Sarowar Hossain said, "Mangoes of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Naogoan, Pabna and its adjacent region are popular across the country. We are collecting mangoes in our BIP factory and Natore factory from these districts. In the first phase, we are purchasing guti mango from the first day of June and it will continue until the middle of July. After this, we will collect Ashwani varieties."
He also added that pulp is being produced in the plant following aseptic technology. The BIP and Natore plant have the capacity to crash 450 tonnes and 200 tonnes of mangoes every day respectively.
Kamruzzaman Kamal, Marketing Director of PRAN-RFL Group, said, "PRAN has started collecting a large amount of mango from the farmers. After collecting the mango, we send it to our Natore and Rajshahi factories. From the pulp, various kinds of mango juice and drinks and mango bar are produced in the factories and we are exporting the products to 145 countries around the globe regularly."
