Pre-departure orientation of job seekers stressed

FE Report | Monday, 31 March 2014

Speakers at a meeting Sunday stressed the importance of proper pre-departure orientation of overseas job seekers about their job destinations and other related issues.
The emphasis came at the national consultation on 'Standardisation of the Pre-departure Orientation Services (PDOS) Training Programme for potential migrants' in the city.
The programme was organised by the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) in collaboration with the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
The speakers said it was necessary to brief clearly the outbound workers about their job contract papers. For helping them communicate, booklets containing essential words also needed to be supplied to them before departing the country.
They said the existing orientation services by the manpower bureau office were not sufficient for the overseas job seekers.
