Pregnant wife hacked to death over dowry

A pregnant housewife was hacked to death allegedly by her husband over dowry at Anwarpur village in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Marufa Begum, 18, wife of Ashraful of the village.
Quoting locals, police said Ashraful, son of Asi Rahman, married Marufa, daughter of Shukkur Ali, few months back as his sixth wife.
Ashraful used to torture Marufa for Tk 20,000 as dowry since their marriage.
On Saturday night, he picked a quarrel with his wife over the issue. At one stage, he chopped her with a sharp weapon around 9:30 pm, leaving her critically injured.
She was taken to Bishambharpur upazila health complex where doctors declared her dead.
