Premium earning of pvt life ins cos marks 23.34 per cent growth

The total premium earning from private sector life insurance companies rose from Tk. 29,165.10 million in 2007 to Tk. 35,974.52 million in 2008 registering a growth of 23.34 percent.
On the other hand, the gross premium income of private sector non-life insurance companies increased from Tk. 9,417.32 million in 2007 to Tk. 11,163.93 million in 2008 registering a growth of 18.55 percent.
The latest annual report of Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) disclosed this Wednesday at its 22nd Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Chaired by A. K. M Rafiqul Islam, Chairman of BIA, the meeting was largely attended by the Chairmen, Managing Directors and senior Executives of member companies.
Mr. Mahbubur Rahman, Chairman, Eastland Insurance, Mr. Nasir A. Choudhury, Managing Director, Green Delta Insurance, Mr. Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Vice-Chairman, BIA, Mr. Shah Abul Kashem, Managing Director, Asia Pacific General Insurance, Mr. Obaidul Kabir Khan, Managing Director, Republic Insurance, Mr. A.B.M. Nurul Haq, Managing Director, Global Insurance, Mr. K.A.M. Ferdous, Managing Director, Northern General Insurance, Mr. Md. Mosleh Uddin, Managing Director, Karnaphuli Insurance spoke on the occasion.
Mr A.K.M. Rafiqul Islam in his address hoped that with the introduction of the new insurance law and establishment of Insurance Regulatory Authority the supervision and control of the insurance industry will be strengthened to bring discipline in the market.
He also hoped that with the help of the Regulatory Authority, the existing problems of the insurance industry will be solved.
The Association strongly feels that conducting insurance business in the true spirit of professionalism, bringing in modern management and sales techniques and new product developments are keys to the future growth and progress of the insurance industry.
The meeting confirmed the minutes of the 21st AGM held on December 23, 2008 and adopted the Annual Report for 2008 and the audited accounts and report of the auditors for the year ended 31st December, 2008.
