Preparation to start trial of war criminals at final stage

Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun Saturday said preparations were now at the final stage to hold the trial of war criminals as per the present government's pre-election pledge, reports BSS.
"The Ministry of Home Affairs is now actively working with the Ministries of Law and Liberation War Affairs to set up a tribunal and appoint prosecutors and investigation agency as part of starting the trial," she said.
The Home Minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Trial of War Criminals and Distortion of History of the Liberation War", organised by Muktijoddha Sangskritik Sangsad (MSS) at the Jatiya Press Club In the city.
Vice-chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU) Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique was the special guest. Valiant Freedom Fighter (FF) Shahjahan Kabir, Bir Protik and former student leaders Ismat Kadir Gama and Abul Kalam Azad Patwari also addressed the function.
With MSS president Amir Ali in the chair, its secretary general Sultana Mariam gave the address of welcome at the function, joined by a large number of FFs.
The Home Minister urged all pro-liberation forces to extend their whole-hearted cooperation to the government with relevant documents and evidences to help stage the trial of war criminals on the soil of Bangladesh as early as possible.
