All preparations are complete for holding polls to four city corporations and nine municipalities Monday, with voter's ID card for the first time in the country, where hectic election campaigns are banned after Saturday midnight, reports UNB.
Election Commissioner Brig Gen (rtd) Sakhawat Hossain told newsmen Saturday that three-tier security measures have been taken in and around the polling centres for ensuring peaceful voting.
UNB correspondents in Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet said the army led joint forces who were already camped in the cities would remain in the rear during elections to the city corporations and respond to call in the event of disturbance.
Mobile courts will function in and around polling centres to deal with any offender.
When the Election Cmmissioners' attention was drawn to media reports that many candidates had provided wrong information in their affidavit during filing nomination papers Brig Sakhawat said election result of such candidate would be cancelled after verification.
He urged the voters to exercise their franchise without fear or favour. "Apply your good sense, conscience and vote for your chosen candidate without fear or favour," he said directing at the voters.
Brig Sakhawat equally urged the candidates to maintain peace, exercise patience and accept the results without violence. "Let us revive the culture of greeting the winners in the election."
